Marian Jean Scott

Marian Jean Scott, age 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on July 23, 2020.

She was born May 26, 1928, at the family home in Fredonia, N.Y., the youngest of five children. She attended grammar school in Fredonia and graduated from Dunkirk High school in 1945.

Marian married William “Bill” Scott in 1946. Their three children: Susan, Daniel and Candace were all born in Dunkirk. Marian’s health and Bill’s work led them across the country in 1961, where they took up residence in Phoenix, Ariz.

In the 1970s, Marian began a successful career in retail management with Diamonds & Smitty’s department stores. After retiring in 1995, she devoted herself to her grandchildren and enjoyed spending her summers in New York state. She was a lover of music and especially adored Frank Sinatra. She loved to cook and bake and decorate. She had a flair for entertaining, especially during the holidays, which was her favorite time of the year.

In 2014, she moved to Fellowship Square, a senior living community. Here, she found new joy with the theater group “The Golden Players” and weekly yoga classes. She was a devout Catholic and was tirelessly devoted to her family.

Marian’s life will live on through her children: Susan Reeves, Daniel Scott and Candace (Douglass) Staub; her grandchildren: Jason Scott, Mary Reed, Megan Staub and Douglass (Carin) Staub; her four great-grandchildren: Alex Scott, Olivia and Lucas Staub, and Mila Steinke; in addition to her nieces and nephews.

Marian was predeceased by her parents, Bernard C. and Iva Mae Bullock; brothers: Arthur, Robert, and Bert Bullock; sister, Betty Moffett; niece, Patricia Straight; a son-in-law, Bill Reeves; and special friend, Earl Brooks.

A private funeral mass was held. Internment at Willowbrook Park Cemetery in Dunkirk, N.Y., will take place at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in Marian’s name may be sent to Fellowship Square Phoenix, Activity Department, 2002 West Sunnyside Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85029.
