Lois Wester (nee Pickell)
Lois Wester (nee Pickell), formerly of Pomfret, N.Y., went to be with her Lord Jan. 14, 2021, at the age of 96. She died peacefully at her home in Seffner, Fla.
She was born Aug. 6, 1924, in McKeesport, Pa., the daughter of the late Ernest Leroy and Elsie Louise Pickell.
Lois served as a cottage coordinator for the Alzheimer and Assisted Living center, now Brookdale, in Elk Grove, Calif., and as activities director for the Salem Towers Residence Apartments in Salem, Ore.
She enjoyed relatively good health up until her final four months, insisted she never colored her ginger hair (she didn’t), that there is no alcohol in Cream de Menthe, and she supported the Republican Party. She was accepted by many of her children’s friends as being “eccentric.”
Lois was a devotee of English poetry, Scrabble and Christian radio, known for recitals of Shakespeare while cooking and cleaning, singing the lyrics to any 40s pop song, and her awards for flower arranging.
Her dream was to become a published author, she wrote a number of children’s stories. She and her oddities will be missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Fritz Wester Sr.; son, Mark Judson Wester’ as well as her sisters: Ruth Fawcett (Jack) and Elsie May Hester (Jim).
Lois is survived by her sister. Phyllis Fletcher (Lee): sons: Oliver Fritz Wester Jr. (Kelly) and their sons: Christopher, Oliver, Andrew and Mark, Ernest Joel Wester, and daughters: Eloise Wester Chocalas (Dennis), Jennifer Wester Alvarez (Angel) and their daughters: Jessica and Samantha; niece. Barbara Fleming; and nephews: Ron Smetana, Jim Smetana, Bruce Fawcett, Jack Fawcett, Curtis Fletcher, Tom Fletcher and Jonathan Fletcher.
Private funeral services are being cared for by the MORSE FUNERAL HOME, 51 Highland Ave., Brocton, N.Y.
Lois will be interred at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery. There will be no funeral or viewing.
