Scott David Dawes

Scott was a man that marched to the drumbeat of his heart and the things he loved. He lived life the way he wanted, following his heart and his dreams. Like an orchestra, his life was composed of many things. He was clever and kind, thoughtful and playful, resilient and determined. He was the greatest storyteller whose captivating stories always generated an audience and an abundance of laughs. He had an incredibly charismatic personality with the rare ability to make everyone around him feel comfortable and at home. There were no strangers in his world.

Scott enjoyed a rewarding career as a builder and developer. The 40 years in the construction business took him from one coast to the other and everywhere in between. He exhibited a talent and passion for building and sharing his knowledge with friends, employees, business associates, and anyone else willing to learn a thing or two. Somehow, he knew everything about everything or at least he could make you believe he did. His attention to detail and perfectionism earned him many accolades. Although he holds many credits for extremely complex building projects, he was very humble and wasn’t one to pat himself on the back. He began his construction career as a field engineer, yet he was determined to continue learning and gain more experience. Eventually, he reached the pinnacle of the construction industry.

Among his accomplishments in the construction and building industry, he was responsible for design coordination and overseeing construction of the Stratosphere Tower, Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, for overseeing the construction of the Delta Center for the Utah Jazz basketball team in Salt Lake City, Utah, and construction of the Chukchansi Gold Casino Resort near Yosemite, Calif. He was general contractor for numerous other high profile construction projects nationwide, particularly in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and New York.

In 2005, after being awarded several projects throughout Oklahoma, Scott purchased All Steel Building Company and moved to Tulsa. This allowed him to fulfill his passion as a design/build general contractor and remain close to home. He served as a board member/director for the Glenpool Chamber of Commerce and the Glenpool School Board. His move to Oklahoma is where he was able to find that perfect balance between the things he loved most, construction and family. Scott worked hard but played even harder. He loved to hunt, fish, ride his motorcycles, attend concerts, travel, and always looked forward to his next adventure. He especially loved Costa Rica, so much that he made it his second home. It’s safe to say that he LIVED life to the fullest and took any and every opportunity to have a good time.

Scott was the oldest of four sons born to Richard Allen and Jean Phyllis Dawes on Nov. 18,1959 ,in North Tonawanda, N.Y. During his childhood he developed a love for the outdoors and proudly earned his Eagle Scout ranking at the early age of 14. Along with this great accomplishment, he acquired lifelong knowledge that would often become conversation pieces and capture the attention of family and friends.

He graduated from Fredonia High School in 1977, where his dad was a teacher. He credits his mother’s guidance, his high school, and hard work in helping him achieve his goals. In 2000, he created the Richard A. Dawes Design and Construction Technology Scholarship to honor his father’s teaching career at Fredonia High School. He was inducted into the Fredonia High School Wall of Fame on June 26, 2015. He had the honor and privilege to speak at the high school graduation for the Fredonia High School class of 2016.

Scott and Andrea were married on July 6, 2013, in Tulsa, Okla. He quickly became a loved member of her family as if he had always been around. He said he had never met a family like hers, to his amazement, 50 plus people could be inside a house together and everybody got along. These were fun times, filled with laughs, debates, and lots of food. He never missed an opportunity to welcome new friends and make them feel right at home. Scott was a loving and caring husband that made sure they had plenty of time to enjoy trips together. They seemed to turn each trip into an adventure and created memories that will always be cherished.

While it seems impossible to accurately express the magnitude of his success in the construction industry, his greatest and proudest role was being a father. He had the honor and pleasure of raising four children: Jeremie, Derek, Madison and Mackenzie. Between them, there was never a shortage of love, support, laughter, and memories. He passionately instilled his wisdom into them and was their greatest cheerleader. He was the type of dad who lovingly offered endless advice which was usually paired with one of his own wild and crazy stories that left you with no choice but to believe he knew what he was talking about. He was the type of dad that kept up with the younger generation and what mattered to them. He enthusiastically spent hours in debates and discussions with his children and enjoyed every minute of it. He was the type of dad who loved hard and unconditionally, even when faced with the occasional, yet inevitable rebellion. He met challenges with understanding, providing endless comfort and great big warm hugs. He was always just a phone call away and will forever be remembered as their hero.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Andrea; his mother, Jean; brothers: Tom and Jeff; four children: Jeremie (Stacie), Derek, Mackenzie, and Madison; grandchildren: Brenden, Olivia, Keira and Michael; step-children: Tia (Ebi) and their children, Ryane, Camryn, Jordan, Ebi; and Richard and his children, Reagan and Issac. Scott is preceded in death by his father, Richard; and brother, Brian. He also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends.
