Jean Carol Morse Sasso

Jean lost her courageous battle with Chronic Ostructive Pulmonary Disease on Oct. 21, 2021, at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, N.Y. She was 76 years old.

Jean was born at Brooks Memorial Hospital on Dec. 16,1944. She was raised in Fredonia, N.Y., by her parents, Floyd and Doris Morse. Jean attended Fredonia Schools and obtained her GED.

She married her high school sweetheart, James J. Sasso. From there. they moved to San Clemente, Laguna Beach, where James was stationed at Camp Pendleton in the U.S. Marines Corps.

They had their first born in California, a son, named Joseph J. Joseph and his wife, Kathy, now reside, with their two daughters; Lauren and Julia Sasso, in Pa. Jim and Jean moved back to Fredonia, N.Y., and had two daughters: Jacqueline Sasso of Fredonia, N.Y., and their youngest daughter, Jennifer I. Sasso of Dunkirk, N.Y. Jim and Jean were the proud grandparents of Jacqueline’s two sons: Jared and Joshua Sasso, and Jennifer’s son, Antonio James Sasso Reyes.

Jean was a private, but, a very loving person. She devoted her life and love to her family. She had a very special and creative gift and could make anything she touched beautiful. Her homemade meals or cookies, pies and cakes were something you would not forget. She loved listening to music and relaxing at home with her pets and family. She will be dearly missed.

She was the most happy with her family laughing and loving. We would like to send a special thank you to all the ICU and ER staff at Brooks Memorial Hospital, who treated Mom like part of their family. We would also like to express our deepest appreciation for the compassion shown by the Hospice nurses, case workers and aides. Thank you to everyone who helped Mom through this rough journey.

Besides her husband, Jim, daughters, and grandsons, Jean is survived by her sisters: Daphine Ford of Texas and Lynette (Peter) Calanni of Fredonia, N.Y.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves behind her canine companion; Trixie and will now be with her pets: Meggy, Roxy, Princess and J.J., who have already crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Doris Morse; a sister, Judy Brushhaber, and half-brother, Wolf Brillian.

As per Jean’s wishes, the family will hold a private memorial service and will celebrate Jean’s life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any local animal shelter, in her name, to honor her loving spirit and her love for animals.

All arrangements have been entrusted to Michael R. Fantauzzi, owner and director of the FANTAUZZI FUNERAL HOME, 82 E. Main St., Fredonia, N.Y.
