Sylvia Higbee Bailey

Sylvia Higbee Bailey, 79, passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2021, at ECMC.

She was born in Jamestown, N.Y., on June 4, 1942, to the late Ernest and Marjory Higbee.

Sylvia graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1960 and received her Bachelor of Science from Buffalo State.

A lifetime educator in and out of the classroom, she taught in the Silver Creek Central School District, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School and Dunkirk Public Schools.

On Aug. 25, 1991, Sylvia married Patrick Bailey. They shared a love of boating and travel, and together operated their catering business “For Your Pleasure” for more than 20 years. Sylvia also enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing, and listening to music, and solving crossword puzzles. She was involved in many activities including Cub Scouts, directing, and playing in the bell choir at St. John’s UCC, playing in the Hose One Drum Corps and performing belly dances.

Sylvia was predeceased by her parents; husband, Patrick Bailey; sister, Maxine Tutton and grandson, Tyler Olson.

She is survived by her brother, Keith Higbee (Lin); sons: Ronald Davidson Olson (Steven) and Andrew Davidson; nephews: Mark Tutton, Steven Tutton and Shawn Tutton; and grandsons: Max Olson, Gabriel Davidson, Zachary Davidson, Seth Davidson and Lucas Davidson.

A private interment will be held at the Willowbrook Park Cemetery. A memorial service and celebration of life for family, friends and neighbors will be held in the spring.
