Kenneth Kent Thies Jr.

POMFRET — Kenneth Kent Thies Jr., 89 of Fredonia, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning, February 10, 2022, with his loving son by his side follow-ing a brief illness. He was born in Laona, NY to Kenneth and Vivian (Reese) Thies, Sr.

Ken married the love of his life, Rita Pangborn on December 16, 1950. He had attended the Laona School and the Industrial High School in Dunkirk, NY where he learned about the machine shop. At a young age, Ken worked with his grandfather on the farms. When he was older, he worked at Huntley’s Manufacturing, Alco, and A.J. Walls as an electrician’s helper. He became a meticulous machinist and retired from Al Tech. Ken joined the National Guard and received his honorable discharged January 1959 as a Specialist Second Class E-5 of the 274th Tank Battalion. He was also member of the Masonic Silver Lodge #757F and the Laona Unit-ed Methodist Church.

Ken is survived by his siblings; William Thies (Kathy) and Mary Gehling; children John Thies; Dorien Krieger (Russell) and Larry Thies (Kathleen); grandchildren John E. Thies (Adrien); Melissa Seavy (Dan); Elizabeth Thies (Amanda); Marcus Thies (Kathryn) and Matthew Thies (Kelly); great grandchildren Grace and Dominic Seavy; Anna-belle Thies; Benton and Bria Thies; Madeline and Sarah Romero. In addition to his parents, Ken was pre-ceded in death by his wife, Rita Thies; his brother Ralph Thies and great grandson Will Wiklem. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Laona Cemetery.

A celebration of life will be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers do-nations can be made to the; Laona United Methodist Church, 9636 Wilson Road, Fredonia, NY.
