Phyllis J. Houser

Phyllis J. Houser, 86, of Cassadaga, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, March 12, 2022, with family by her side.

Born June 16, 1935 in Mayville, a daughter of the late Maude Shoemaker and a 1953 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School.

In earlier years she was employed at Welch’s, Westfield, Phyllis was then employed for over 30 years at Tops Markets, Fredonia until her retirement in 1997.

She was a member of the Open Door Baptist Church, Cassadaga, where she was involved in various church ministries including serving as a Sunday school and Vacation Bible school teacher.

Phyllis enjoyed going to the Sinclairville Library and participating in quilting, knitting craft groups. Phyllis’s personal ministry consisted of making fingerless gloves, hats, slippers, and shawls for area nursing homes, Circle of Love cancer patients and students in South Korean orphanage

She was an avid baker and enjoyed supplying cupcakes to the after school program at Park United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Cassadaga Lily Dale Stockton Senior Citizens.

Her favorite time was spent with family, especially her grandchildren who she dearly loved.

Wife of 63 years to the late Owen L. Houser, whom he married Aug. 14, 1954, and who died Feb. 20, 2018; mother of Dean (Karen) Houser of Sinclairville, Cindy Budniewski of Dunkirk, Jody Houser and Robin Webb, all of Cassadaga; grandmother of Matthew (Len), Nicholas and Kelly Budniewski, Derek and Alyson Houser and Ryan Webb; sister of the late Judith Deering. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Visitation 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday at Open Door Baptist Church, 3576 Luce Rd. (Corner of Route 60), Cassadaga. Burial in Cassadaga Cemetery.
