Fredrick K. Forsythe

Fredrick K. Forsythe, age 70, of Coudersport, PA, passed away unexpectedly, on Thursday, July 7, 2022 following a boating accident in Westfield, NY. He was born on February 25, 1952 in Saint Marys, PA, son of Frederick “Boots” and Loretta (Hixson) Forsythe.

On Nov. 23, 1985, he married his wife, Darlene (Smith) Forsythe. Fredrick (also known as Captain Fred) was the owner and operator of Cast Away Charters. He chartered fishing expeditions on Lake Erie and Chautauqua Lake. For several years he and his wife organized and hosted Fishing with Heroes, an annual fishing event at Barcelona Harbor, Westfield, N.Y., to benefit U.S. com-bat injured Purple Heart veterans. He was a long-standing member and served as an elder at the Gospel Tabernacle in Coudersport and a retired employee of Dresser Rand in Wellsville, N.Y.

His greatest interest was his faith and his family. He had a giving heart. Fishing and hunting were his hobbies, but not his main focus.

Fred is survived by his wife: two sons: Joseph Forsythe (Lisa) of Riverview, Fla., and Jacob Forsythe (Bobbie Jo) of Penn Yan, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Faith Baker, Sofia Forsythe, Colin Forsythe, Angelina Forsythe and Carson Dunn; a sister, Midge (Morales) Houghtaling of Coudersport; an aunt, Evelyn Kephart of Penfield, Pa.; four nephews: James Whitt, Raymond Morales, Kenneth Morales and Mark Morales; and numerous cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Rose Mae Whitt and Gloria Jean Forsythe.

A casual celebration of Fred’s Life and a meet and remember will be held at YWCA, 58 S. Portage St., Westfield, N.Y., Sunday, August 14 from 1 to 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Fred Forsythe to the Coudersport Gospel Tabernacle, 420 Rte. 6 West, Coudersport, PA 16915.

The family has entrusted Fred’s arrangements to the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home 210 N. East Street Coudersport, PA 16915.
