George W. Stark

GOWANDA –George W. Stark age 80 passed away Saturday afternoon May 27, 2023 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center where he had been a rehab resident for the past 3 weeks.

George was born in Buffalo, NY on 55 Ashland Avenue February 22, 1943 the son of Wesley M. and Ruth K. (Kneeskern) Stark.

George honorably served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

George retired from Office of Children and Family Services in Buffalo, after his retirement he held various Village of Gowanda Municipal positions including Assesor for 32 years and Building Inspector for the Village . He was instrumental in getting the Gowanda American Legion Post 409 out of the red while serving as Commander of the Post. George served as Commander up until a week before his passing due to his failing health . George was also a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 409 and the James Cruden VFW Post 5007 Honor Guard , participating in the military honors for veterans at funerals. He considered the American Legion Staff and membership his second family. George was the Past President of the Gowanda Mini Corps and was a member of Phoenix Lodge No. 262 F&AM and the Jamestown Consistory He will be missed.

Survivors include 2 daughters; Dr. Jamie C. Schick of California and Traci J. ” TJ” ( James Lincoln) Stewart Sr. of Globe, Az. Grandchildren; Tanner J. Schick, Kalinn R. Stewart and James Lincoln Stewart Jr. George is also survived by a brother John Stark of Grand Island, NY along with several nieces and nephews

Besides his parents George was preceded in death by a brother Charles C. Stark.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at the Collins Center Cemetery in August and will be announced by the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda, NY.
