Tom White

BROCTON — Thomas D. White, 79, formerly of Brocton, N.Y., passed away peacefully Saturday, July 15, 2023, in the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility of Dunkirk, N.Y., following a brief illness.

Tom was born July 9, 1944, in Dunkirk, N.Y., the son of the late Daniel and Margaret (Miller) White.

Following high school, Tom went on to serve his Country joining the US Army from 1962 until 1965 and then continued to serve as a Reservist until 1968.

On April 1, 1967, Tom married the love of his life, Nancy Bialy, who after 55 years of marriage, passed away peacefully on May 26,2022.

Tom had been employed for many years as a maintenance worker for the New York State Thruway Authority. Following his retirement, Tom was very involved with the Veteran community, serving as commander of the John W Dill Post 434 American Legion of Brocton, N.Y., and was Chautauqua County American Legion Commander from 2007-2008. He was a lifetime member of Post 434 American Legion of Brocton, The Conservation Club and the First Ward Falcons Club.

Tom was proud to tell that he was a blood donor giving 31 gallons of blood throughout his life.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories two sisters: Joanne Schihl, and Jane Mawhir; his nieces and nephews, Helen Santiago, Susan Miller, Patrick Mawhir, and Jonathan Schihl, and further survived by Lisa Obrien and her family, who came into his life when she reconnected and was reunited with her mother, the late Nancy White.

Memorial contributions in honor of Tom may be made to the JW Dill Post 434 Honor Guard, 110 West Main Street, Brocton, NY 14716.
