Kevin D. Longenecker
Kevin D. Longenecker, 66, of Hayesville, NC passed away peacefully at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice on Dec. 23, 2025. He was surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Kevin was loved and adored by all who knew him. He was born on Feb. 02, 1959, in Lafayette, IN. His family settled in Fredonia, NY, where he graduated from Fredonia High School. As a young man he developed a great love of the outdoors during camping, fishing and hunting trips with his friends and brothers. He carried this love of the great outdoors all throughout his life. If he was not out in the wilderness, he was playing his guitar and sharing his love of music. He attended Alfred Tech and obtained an associates degree in drafting. From there, he began his lifelong career in the nuclear industry, working at many of the operating nuclear facilities across the United States. Recently retired, Kevin’s plans of relaxing at his beautiful cabin on the Tallulah River or traveling around to various national parks in his Airstream with his family and fiance, were cut short after he lost his battle with cancer. Kevin was a member of First Presbyterian in Wilmington, NC, of which his beloved mother, Marilyn Longenecker and sister, Elizabeth DeCeilio are also members. Countless memories of family gatherings, camping, fishing, evenings by the campfire, or hiking in the wilderness, are treasured in the hearts of his children, siblings and fiance.
Kevin is survived by his children: Sarah (Justin) Ramirez of Bolivia, NC, Jacob Longenecker of Centennial, CO; grandchildren: Audrey Longenecker and Evelyn Longenecker of Centennial CO, and Hailey Justine Ramirez of Bolivia, NC; Mother, Marilyn Longenecker of Winnabow, NC; Siblings: David (Sandra) Longenecker of Bullock, NC, Jon Longenecker (Melissa Congdon) of Fredonia, NY, and Elizabeth (Matthew) DeCeilio of Wilmington, NC. Fiance, Rachel Counts of Greenwood, SC. Kevin is predeceased by his Father, Donald Longenecker.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the National Park Foundation, Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice, or First Presbyterian in Wilmington, NC. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.andrewsmortuary.com.
