Thirty years ago — 1991

“We’re the Other New York” is the theme of a just-published Chautauqua-Allegheny Region travel guide which is available free upon request. Featured in the guide are four color photographs of the region, which is comprised of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties in the southwestern part of New York state, and everything a visitor or resident needs to know about the area.

Forty years ago — 1981

Elizabeth Merritt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Merritt of King Road, Forestville, will perform as a mallet percussionist at the All-State Band concert at the Concord Resort Hotel in Kiamesha Lake. Elizabeth is president of her senior class at Forestville High School, vice president of the band, and president of both the Student Council and National Honor Society. She has won 15 NYSSMA awards for her musical accomplishments and is the first band member ever chosen from Forestville High School to perform at the state level.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Many improvements have been made at the Cockaigne ski center in Cherry Creek in preparation for another year of winter fun. An open house is being held today.
