Thirty years ago — 1991

The Chautauqua County Resource Center has notified the city of Dunkirk that it plans to build a community residence for eight developmentally disabled adults on a site north of East Chestnut Street. The site, which is owned by John Runfola of Fredonia, is a 1.8 acre parcel of land adjacent to the East Chestnut housing units owned by the Dunkirk Housing Authority.

Forty years ago — 1981

Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan chose Woodbury Vineyards 1980 Johannisbert Riesling and 1980 Chardonnay alongside Gold Seal Wine Company’s Blanc de Blanc champagne, to demonstrate to California Senator S.I. Hayakawa that New York State wines are among the finest in the World Series of wines. The two senators had placed a wager that the Senator from the state losing the World Series would provide wine from his part of the country.

Fifty years ago — 1971

When the Dunkirk High School band recently performed in the 52nd annual Gimbel Brothers Thanksgiving Day parade in Philadelphia, Pa., it boasted the largest high school band in the history of Dunkirk High School as well as the largest marching ensemble.
