Thirty years ago — 1991

As of Dec. 18, the Old Collins Center Fire Hall at 3459 Main St., now the home of the Tom Locicero family, is considered a total loss after a fire ripped through the wooden structure. Collins Center Firemen celebrated their 100th anniversary of the fire company in September and had planned to park a new truck scheduled to arrive shortly after the first of the year in front of the old fire hall.

Forty years ago — 1981

A photographic portrait of Miss Florence Maud Andrews donated to Fredonia State University College by Mrs. Nellie O’Neil, a longtime friend, was officially dedicated at the college’s Hemingway Hall. Miss Andrews was a graduate of the Fredonia Normal School, Class of 1889 and a teacher in the Dunkirk Public School System for many years. She died in 1971 at age 101.

Student of the Week is Bonnie Ruzycki, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Felix J. Ruzycki of 133 Stegelske Ave., Dunkirk. She is a senior at Dunkirk High School.
