Thirty years ago — 1991

William C. Berg was named the new superintendent of schools for the Gowanda School District for a five-year term beginning July 1, 1992. He replaces Dr. J. Warren Adair. Berg, the junior-senior high school principal at Gowanda, is a resident of Van Buren Point. He will receive $56,000 for his new appointment for the 1992-93 year.

Forty years ago — 1981

Dr. J. Warren Adair, the newly appointed Gowanda Superintendent of Schools, will assume his post Jan. 21, replacing Chester Tepper. Since 1975, Dr. Adair has been serving as school superintendent in Coldwater, Mich. He has New York State certification for superintendent of secondary schools as well as certification as principal. A formal reception to introduce Dr. and Mrs. Adair to the community is being planned.

Fifty years ago — 1971

For Christmas 1971, members of the Dunkirk Elks delivered their annual Christmas baskets to 40 needy families in the area. B. Anthony Gary was project chairman.
