Thirty years ago — 1992

Chautauqua County residents, along with other citizens of New York, could be in for “a heart-palpitating shock” this year if growth in the cost of Medicaid continues at its present pace. Both Chautauqua County Executive Andrew Goodell and a spokesman for the New York State Association of Counties agreed that the state’s counties are “crying for help and reform” as the local cost of paying for health care for the poor continues to mount.

Forty years ago — 1982

The Dunkirk High School band will begin raising money in February to finance a trip next October to the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tenn. Andrew Christina, band director, said the full band will march in a parade at the Fair on Oct. 15 and the concert band and jazz ensemble will give performances on Oct. 16. The 120-member band will travel to Knoxville in three buses.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Plans are being made to establish a county branch of the Comprehensive Health Planning Council of Western New York, it was announced during the meeting of the Dunkirk-Fredonia Regional Planning Board.
