Thirty years ago — 1992

Student of the Week is Mary Becker, daughter of Gaius and Oliver Becker of Colt Road, Brocton and a senior at Brocton Central School. An active student, she has played volleyball, basketball and softball. Mary is also a member of the school chorus, vice president of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Student Council. She has been a 4-H member for eight years. Mary plans to pursue a careerin physical therapy.

Forty years ago — 1982

The Dunkirk Citizens Action Board (CAB) membership is asking for donations of food, clothing and money to help the oppressed people of Poland. CAB members spearheading the “Polish Relief Fund” campaign are Leonard Wojnarowski, Frank Lisa Sr., Mary Elizabeth Orcutt (Dunkirk CAB president) and Joseph Carrus. Working closely with CAB members are former Dunkirk Mayor Gary Michalak and Joseph Woloszyn of Woloszyn’s Printery in Dunkirk.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Walter Moos, a senior at Fredonia High School, has won the County American Legion Oratorical Contest held at Southwestern High School. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Gilbert E. Moos, 34 Middlesex Drive, Fredonia.
