Reed has put an importance on waters

One of the most important things our representative in Congress can do is to ensure that we are receiving the help we need and deserve here in Chautauqua County. We need someone willing to fight so we receive attention and resources.

Congressman Tom Reed is leading that fight. I know this because I work with Tom and his staff on many issues and needs for our community. He and his team are responsive and dedicated and they are making a difference for us.

One important area that Tom has helped address for our community is water resources. The North County Water District is starting to take shape and Tom’s efforts have assisted in its formation. This is a regional solution that will help stabilize rates, improve reliability and help to retain and grow business.

Tom has also taken a leading role in helping address the needs of our Great Lakes. Tom helped pass the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, which is bringing federal funding to our area to address invasive species in Lake Erie. Also, Tom supported the passing of the Water Resources Development Act bill through Congress. This important piece of legislation funds critical projects that will potentially bring great benefits to us as a part of the Great Lakes system.

Even our recent dredging projects in Barcelona, Dunkirk and Sunset Bay would not have occurred without Tom’s assistance. From securing funding for Barcelona to advocating for needed support and coordination with the Army Corps of Engineers for all three harbors.

Lake Erie is a vital resource and an important part of our community and Tom’s efforts will help ensure that our lakes are protected for our families and businesses.

Tom’s efforts extend beyond our lakes, they extend into our infrastructure and making sure our families are safe. He is the reason our state is receiving additional funding to help rebuild our highways and bridges because he made sure the High Density States Program was included in last December’s Highway Bill. He is making sure our crumbling infrastructure is addressed to keep our families safe and ensure that business and commerce can continue and grow. This is so important and it is what we need in our representative.

Tom Reed and his team are very accessible and involved in our local community.

Not only has he held more town hall meetings than any other local representative, he and his team are often present at important meetings and events. In fact, Tom has representatives at almost every Lake Erie Management Commission meeting. Their presence at the commission meetings has helped us move forward on the initiatives I have mentioned above.

These are just a few of many examples of what Tom Reed has done for our area. He has my full support because he is putting us first and making sure every county in this district is cared for.

George Borrello is the county legislator for District 6, which includes Hanover and Silver Creek. He also is chairman of the Lake Erie Management Commission.
