Twenty years ago — 1999

A Cattaraugus County Fair worker from out-of-town is not likely to forget passing through Salamanca. The worker lost a money bag containing $7,000 on Main Street. City resident Ted Hartmann found it. While Mr. Hartmann was returning the bag to police and still at the station, the man who lost the funds called to inquire about the money. Much to his relief, all the money was intact.

Thirty years ago — 1989

The Buffalo Bills Foundation recently donated $2,000 to the capital campaign which is assisting Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk with a $6.2 million radiology/air conditioning expansion project currently underway at the 133-bed health care facility. The Bills Foundation supports several charitable and non-profit organizations throughout Western New York. Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson was on hand for the check presentation.

Forty years ago — 1979

Robert D. Kesicki has been named business manager of the Dunkirk Printing Co. Mr. Kesicki has been in the accounting field for 20 years. He served as financial manager for the Erie, Pa., City School District for six years and as director of general accounting for the County of Erie, Pa., for one year.

Fifty years ago — 1969

The high rise is rising, as workmen at the high rise apartment building for the elderly at the foot of Main Street in Dunkirk are now in the process of forming the second floor. The floor is described as a heavy structural floor and requires more time to form, needing more steel. The goal is to have the structural frame finished before the winter months.
