Thirty years ago — 1991

Those attending a Dunkirk Housing Authority (DHA) meeting to protest the recent hiring of a non-resident became even more upset when they learned that the new employee is the brother-in-law of DHA Executive Director Stephen Hockenbury. Confirming that he was related by marriage to Timothy Texton of West Seneca, Hockenbury insisted he had absolutely no input into the board’s decision to hire Texton for the $24,083-peryear maintenance worker position.

Forty years ago — 1981

James A. Will of Dunkirk was re-elected to the Board of Directors of the New York State Association for Educational Data Systems for a three-year period. A member of the board for the past four years, the Dunkirk High School math instructor was named at the association’s 16th annual conference at the Hotel Syracuse.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Construction has begun on a three-store complex on the east side of Bennett Road, just north of Route 20 in the town of Pomfret. Guy Patton of Patton Electric of Silver Creek and Fredonia, is coordinating the construction. Patton’s Fredonia store will be moved.
