All jobs have requirements

Editor, OBSERVER:

In reply to the front page story, “Nurses plead with county officials to stand up for them” (Sept. 24), the featured nurse will have to choose between getting vaccinated against COVID or losing her job. She asks for help from her county legislators.

This is a personal decision over which she has complete control: comply with her employer’s requirements (get vaccinated) or refuse, and lose her job. She (and every other health care worker) has had to comply with multiple other pre-employment requirements that include background checks to screen for criminal or dishonest behavior, invasive laboratory screening, and a pre-employment physical that must include proof of vaccinations.

Applicants always have the right to refuse to comply and walk away. The decision is hers to make.
