People’s column: We need more voters, not spectators in U.S.
Editor, OBSERVER:
Given the unsettled political landscape, maybe it’s time to consider a second American Revolution. Both parties offer seriously flawed candidates — regardless of who wins we’ll be faced with major challenges. Among them, border security, NATO membership, support for Israel and Ukraine, gun control measures, and reducing deficit spending.
It seems to me “we the people” get steamrolled year after year by self-serving politicians seeking to maintain their privileged lifestyle. Improvements need to be made now to give us any hope for a promising future.
We need millions of American “spectators” to find the courage to take our country back and restore the glory of the USA. Stage a peaceful sit-in in DC, forcing gridlock across the capitol. Demand immediate changes be made to our government, among them: prevent convicted felons from running for elected office, install term limits for every elected office, set Supreme Court justice term at 15 years, have each party nominate a Justice then hold a vote instead of allowing one person to make that choice, convert foreign aid to “domestic aid” to rebuild our infrastructure and employ millions of Americans to serve in our Social Security/Veterans Affairs/Immigration departments.
The chances of such a protest are at zero because we’ve become a nation of sheep. And the politicians want it that way so they can continue the status quo. Meaning no progress will be made to improve our daily lives.
I continue to fight for my five young grandkids so they might have a promising future, and I pray harder now than I ever have in my life.
