Thirty years ago — 1986

From Just Between Us ….. It’s easy to see what’s important to William “Bill” Buckley Jr., political columnist and editor of the National Review. Interviewed on CNN’s Larry King Live, Mr. Buckley spoke of first things first — namely, his love of peanut butter — in particular, that manufactured by Red Wing Co. of Fredonia. He also plugged the company’s newest masterpiece, P.B., which, according to the editor, is a peanut butter aimed at the adult market.

Forty years ago — 1976

The Historical Society of Dunkirk dedicated a plaque commemorating the historic Dunkirk-to-Dunkerque Day of 1946. This was the third and final event planned as the society’s observance of the bicentennial of America, as well as part of its long-range program to mark historic sites and preserve as many as the same sites as possible.

Fifty years ago — 1966

With the support of a National Science Foundation grant in the amount of $31,230, Fredonia State University College will offer a six-week summer institute in introductory physical sciences for secondary school teachers next summer. Thirty science teachers will be selected to participate nationwide.
