Retrospective

Thirty years ago — 1987

A four-man, all-original progressive rock band formed by music students at Fredonia State University College won the Energizer Rock and Roll Challenge regional contest recently at Rutgers University. As a result, the band “Byzon Iz Pyzon” competed in the national finals at Villanova University in Pennsylvania. The group, consisting of Dean Mancuso, Ben Luce, Keith Goldstein and Bill McSorley, won $2,000 for their efforts.

Forty years ago — 1977

Lori Fessenden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Fessenden of Cassadaga, won the title of Miss Cassadaga at the local contest to select the representative for the Stockton Gala Days Queen contest. A senior at Cassadaga Valley Central School, she plans to attend Jamestown Community College to major in human services. Laurie Mikula was first runnerup and Lane Fredrickson was voted Miss Congeniality.

Fifty years ago — 1967

George Dickenson has been elected president of the Lake Shore Chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association. Franklin H. Hazard of Dunkirk is chairman of the board of the State Heart Assembly.
