Thirty years ago — 1989

The winner of Marine Midland’s “Show Off Your Kids!” contest was Jason Bishoff. He received a $200 U.S. Savings Bond in a random drawing of participants. Jason is the 4-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Bishoff. They reside on Lincoln Avenue in Dunkirk. Jason is a student in the Head Start program at School 6.

Forty years ago – 1979

Anthony Popielarz, Kosciuszko Club candidate, collected $256 to win the “Son of Sheik” contest held in conjunction with the 1979 High Fever Follies. The winner was announced during the final performance in the Dunkirk High School auditorium. Robert Adamczak (Moniuszko Club) was first runnerup; and second runnerup was Thomas Kinney (Elks Club).

Fifty years ago — 1969

New positions of assistant superintendent of schools and assistant high school principal have been established in Dunkirk by the Board of Education.
