Thirty years ago — 1989

Dunkirk High School’s Jennifer Kubiak will compete in the Section VI Diving Preliminaries in the Alumni Arena natatorium on the University of Buffalo campus in Amherst. Jennifer recently won her third Chautauqua County diving championship in Frewsburg.

Forty years ago — 1979

After almost 40 years of attempts by various groups and individuals concerned for Westfield’s future, the two railroad bridges on North Portage Street are to be replaced. County Legislator Richard E. Davies recalled that back in 1948 he saw pictures of the bridges, both narrow structures on a heavily traveled highway, that were used in an effort to bring attention to the need for improvements.

New officers of the Dunkirk Police Benevolent Association are Edward J. Mulville, president; Aloysius Czekanski, vice president; Joseph Ratkiewicz, treasurer; and LeRoy Fox, secretary.
