Thirty years ago — 1989

Student of the Week is Ryan Freling, a senior at Dunkirk High School. He is the son of Thomas and Patricia Freling of Washington Avenue. Ryan is a member of the National Honor Society, serves as president of SADD, Student Council treasurer and vice president of the Varsity D Club. Ranked second in his class, he has lettered in football, baseball and basketball. Ryan hopes to attend either Princeton University or the University of Rochester to pursue a career in math and/or science.

Forty years ago — 1979

Another office building is being proposed for Dunkirk’s urban renewal area. Dr. James Cole, Dr. Joseph Cardamone and Dr. William Kutner, who now have offices on the second floor of the Central Avenue building that houses West Drug, are expected to disclose plans for a medical office building in the renewal area. The doctors are seeking a site along Park Avenue between East Third and East Fourth streets.

Fifty years ago — 1969

Harold Miller of Bennett Road, Silver Creek, was among 14 men appointed to the lay-priest finance committee for the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo.
