Thirty years ago — 1989

A standing room only crowd of 35 residents packed the meeting room of the Fredonia Planning Board in village hall, with many citizens voicing concerns over the proposed 120-unit townhome development planned for a 20-acre parcel of land behind homes on Temple Street, Risley Street and University Park. No action on the development was taken at the meeting.

Forty years ago — 1979

The first bank to be established in the Cassadaga area in its 170-year history will hold a grand opening celebration Dec. 8. The manager of the Cassadaga Branch of Bankers Trust of Western New York, Lee Johnson, said this will be a full service bank able to serve the farming, commercial, business and educational community as well as private individuals.

Fifty years ago — 1969

The Kropat Home Appliance and Furniture Co. store, 33 N. Main St., Cassadaga recently burned to the ground after a flash fire started in some rug samples in the storage area.
