Thirty years ago — 1989

The village of Fredonia has been awarded a Pedestrian Safety Award by the American Automobile Association. This award has been presented to Fredonia for nine of the last 10 years and is in recognition of an outstanding pedes-trian safety record in the village.

Michelle Holcomb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Holcomb of Lincoln Avenue, Dunkirk, was a participant in the recent New York State “Tiny Miss America” pag-eant in New York City. She was second runnerup in the swimsuit competition for 2 to 3 years olds.

Fifty years ago — 1969

Charles Manson and five other members of his “cult” have been indicted for the murder of actress Sharon Tate and six other persons. The murders took place in August.
