Thirty years ago — 1989

Casimir Kaczor of East Talcott Street in Dunkirk is pictured walking down the side of Talcott Street with his faithful dog “Mugs” at his side. Mr. Kaczor, who has a broken foot which makes it harder to get around, said the sidewalk was too slippery so he opted for the road. The OBSERVER photo was taken by Mort Buss Jr.

Forty years ago — 1979

A featured photo shows a mural painted on the gymnasium wall of Silver Creek High School by George Clees, a graduate of the Class of 1974. The Class of 1979 commissioned Clees to do this work and also another on the outside of the school building. The knight signifies the Silver Creek High School nickname.

Fifty years ago — 1969

Mayor Joseph J. Steger offers Dunkirk taxpayers a tax cut of $5.25 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in his presentation of the proposed 1970 city budget to the common council.
