Thirty years ago — 1989

The Cassadaga Job Corps Center recently received three awards at the U.S. Department of Labor’s annual regional conference in Albany. Of the 11 Job Corps centers in Region II, plaques went to Cassadaga’s Dan Keefe, health services supervisor; Chris McQuiggan, advisor of the “Junior Women in Community Service;” and Carlos Grace, center director.

Forty years ago — 1979

More than 1,300 walkers participated in the Oct. 13 “Walkathon” and collected more than $2,200 for the March of Dimes. Top winners and their prizes are as follows: First, Debbie Duff of Fredonia, 10-speed bicycle; second, Wendy Fox of South Dayton, $100 wardrobe from Sidey’s; third, Vernon Sumter of Fredonia, $15 dinner certificate from the Holiday Inn.

Fifty years ago — 1969

Students in Mrs. Violet Carreras’ first-grade class at St. Mary’s School made Christmas presents for their mothers and grandmothers. The gifts are candle holders made of pie plates and macaroni.
