Thirty years ago — 1990

Fredonia native and resident Betsy S. Steger was recently appointed Chautauqua County attorney by the new county executive, Andrew Goodell. She succeeds Mr. Goodell in the job he held prior to his inauguration as county executive. Ms. Steger is the first woman ever named to the county attorney position. She had been first deputy county attorney since 1984.

Forty years ago — 1980

A self-taught artist, Dunkirk native Julio Rivera became involved in cartooning and painting as a youth. Currently, the 25-yearold son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rivera of Dunkirk works in the U.S. Army’s Material Division Plans and Operations Department as a draftsman. Julio also adds his artistic touch to the Army’s newsletter, “The Emblem.”

Fifty years ago — 1970

Plans for a 20-unit apartment project to be constructed in the wooded portion of 346 Central Ave., Fredonia have been announced by W. David VanScoter of Cleveland.
