Thirty years ago — 1990

Danielle Chiesi, a senior at Ripley Central School, has been selected Student of the Week. She is the daughter of Ralph and Marilyn Chiesi of Burton Avenue, Ripley. President of the National Honor Society, Danielle is vice president of her class and a member of the yearbook staff. She also has won honors for varsity basketball. Following graduation, she plans to attend Canisius College to pursue a career as an athletic trainer.

Forty years ago — 1980

A Silver Creek man escaped injury earlier this month when his car was struck by a train and sliced in two at the Center Road crossing in Sheridan. Richard Petri, 51, of Main Street, said he could not stop in time because glare from the sun prevented him from seeing the flashing train signal. When he finally saw the train approaching, the icy roadway caused him to slide halfway onto the tracks.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Sgt. Neil Salhoff arrived from Vietnam just before Christmas and is spending a 30-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Salhoff, Terrace Street, Fredonia.
