Thirty years ago — 1990

First time visitors to the Gowanda Nursing Home are usually surprised at being greeted by Sandy, a 4-year-old golden retriever. She’s been a nursing home dog for two years. The facility’ administrator, Colin Hart, called Sandy “part of the family,” noting the exceptionally well-mannered and friendly animal is a boon to the well being of the home’s residents.

Forty years ago — 1980

Charles F. Drummond was recently named composing room superintendent of the OBSERVER, succeeding John A. Nowak who retired. A company employee for the past 32 years, Mr. Drummond previously was assistant foreman in the composing room. He is a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and vice commander of American Legion Post 62. He and his wife Gail reside at 121 Hamlet St., Fredonia and are the parents of two daughters, Keely and Julie.

Fifty years ago — 1970

R. Craig Campbell has been elected president and chief executive officer of Welch Foods Inc. of Westfield, succeeding Raymond T. Ryan, who is retiring after 25 years of service with the company.
