Thirty years ago — 1990

Student of the Week is Pamela Crowell, a Pine Valley Central School senior. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crowell of South Dayton. President of the senior class and the National Honor Society, Pam was the recipient of the 1989 Penn-York Chemistry Award. She is also a member of the girls’ varsity basketball and softball team. Following graduation, Pam will major in sports medicine at Mercyhurst College in Erie.

Forty years ago — 1980

Dennis Wright, a senior staff nurse in the emergency room of Lake Shore Hospital in Irving, is off to the Winter Olympics. Being a cross-country and downhill ski enthusiast with an interest in the Olympic games and the Adirondack region, Dennis wrote to the Lake Placid Olympic organizing committee in January 1979, expressing his interest in volunteering his services as registered nurse for the winter games. Dennis received one of 40 R.N. positions at the games.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Lawrence Nichols of Fredonia and Rebecca Smith of Dunkirk won the recent leadership contest sponsored by Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922. Now eligible for the state competition, each received a $100 Savings Bond.
