Retrospective

Thirty years ago — 1990

When Mike DeWolf Jr. of Sheridan returned home for the holidays, he brought with him a first-place trophy in wrestling from Wyoming Technical Institute. DeWolf wrestles at the 140-pound weight class and is a former Fredonia High School wrestler.

Forty years ago — 1980

One hundred and fifty years of serving the Lord in teaching and preaching the word of God in Dunkirk will be marked by the First Baptist Church of Dunkirk. Organized May 5, 1830, the church was the first of any denomination in Dunkirk. Begun with a constituent membership of 22, the membership now numbers in excess of 160. The first church building was erected on Fourth Street in 1853.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Ground has been broken on Main Street, Westfield for the new Westfield Communication Center. The center is expected to be completed by September 1970, according to Alastair and Roderick Nixon of the Chautauqua and Erie Telephone Corporation.
