Thirty years ago — 1990
A new store, Positively Inspired, has opened at 59 West Fifth St., Dunkirk. Owned by John and Jessie Boice of Gowanda, the store features a variety of unique items, including futons, herbal health care products, natural toiletries, artwork, books and gift items. The store also carries crafts and the owners hope the store will become an outlet for local craftspeople.
Forty years ago — 1980
Following up on a previous city commitment, the Dunkirk Housing Authority filed an application for another 40 units of public housing for low- and middle-income families. The action could lead to the construction of 100 units of public housing this year. The 40-unit project is entirely for families while the original 60-unit project is split 35-25 between families and senior citizens.
Fifty years ago — 1970
Al “The Barber” Sobkowski is retiring following 59 years of barbering in the Dunkirk area. Robert W. Lyczkowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lyczkowski, 416 Bucknor St., Dunkirk received a doctor of philosophy degree from Illinois Institute of Technology.
