Thirty years ago — 1990

Stephen Schunk of Dunkirk, who performs at military functions including funerals, programs at the Dunkirk Lighthouse and Veterans Park and the annual American flag burning at Frank Acquavia American Legion Post 1344, was recently presented with a new trumpet. Purchased by the Polish Literary and Assembly Rooms (Dom Polski Club), the instrument was presented to the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council, which in turn presented it to Mr. Schunk. The gift was presented in appreciation for Mr. Schunk’s services over the past five years.

Forty years ago – 1980

A unique get-well gift, a rented “foosball” table, was recently delivered to Julie Zaffalon, 843 Jefferson St., Dunkirk. Sent by 19 thoughtful, foosball-playing friends, the gift is intended to make her recovery from knee surgery a bit more bearable.

Fifty years ago — 1970

The women faculty members and office staff of the Silver Creek Junior-Senior High School met for dinner at Foit’s Restaurant to honor Mrs. Robert Graham, who is retiring after teaching English in the Silver Creek system for the past 18 years.
