Thirty years ago — 1990
Julie Pearce of Fredonia, a senior at Dunkirk High School, has been honored by Dunkirk Mayor Gregory Krauza and the North County Jaycees Chapter 621 as the Outstanding Young Person of the Year for 1990. Julie, daughter of James and Judy Pearce of Birchwood Drive, Fredonia received a plaque from the Jaycees’ officers.
Forty years ago — 1980
Vacant property on the north side of Lake Shore Drive West has been selected as a site for a proposed 24-unit public housing project for senior citizens and disabled persons. The location is west of Cease Commissary and east of the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce. The property, owned by James Sommer of Fredonia, has 201 feet of frontage.
Fifty years ago — 1970
John Kraiger of Dunkirk is pictured in today’s “Do You Remember?” Mr. Kraiger was in the driver’s seat of Engine 1, a horsedrawn fire hose chemical cart in a picture taken in 1914.
