Thirty years ago — 1990

Dunkirk Public Works Director Michael Bednar has directed the city’s streets and parks division to conduct an all-out blitz to get all trash collected by the city by 3:30 p.m. today. The blitz was ordered to clear up a backlog that has developed over the past week since the number of trash trucks being used for daily collection duties was reduced from three to two.

Forty years ago — 1980

A new restaurant that will feature homemade food is scheduled to open in late February at 409 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Ross’s Restaurant formerly was located at the site. The new restaurant will be known as “The Lovin’ Spoonful.” The owners are Thomas Barthlow of Highlands, N.J., and Mary B. Jennings of Forestville.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Daniel Rusch Jr., manager of Rusch’s Restaurant, Lake Shore Drive West, Dunkirk has been installed as president of the Buffalo chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association.
