Thirty years ago — 1990

A cake decorating contest highlighted the February meeting of the Stockton Cassadaga Lily Dale Senior Citizens. Eighty members watched as Dean Courson, Albert Holcomb, Warren Chase and Jim Pugh volunteered to decorate the cakes using Valentine’s Day as the motif. Mr. Pugh was awarded first prize.

Forty years ago — 1980

Sheridan artist Laurel Rivers has donated a pair of framed sketches to the art collection of the Silver Creek Historical Center. One depicts the footbridge which connects Main Street and Buffalo Street. Built in 1896, the bridge never had an official name, though for a while it was referred to as ” Silver Creek’s Golden Stairs.” The other sketch is of the skew arch which crosses Jackson Street. There is only one other of its kind, located in Russia. The arch was built in 1852.

Fifty years ago — 1970

The facelifting of the front of Philip Murray Union Hall, Central Avenue, Dunkirk has been completed by the Meister Contracting Co. The large display windows at the northeast corner of the building were removed and walls were constructed. This is part of an extensive alteration program planned for the building.
