Thirty years ago — 1990

The Seneca Nation of Indians 16-member Tribal Council, under the direction of Dennis M. Lay, president, has made a $15,000 donation toward the “Generations of Care” capital campaign at Tri-County Hospital in Gowanda. It was noted that the hospital served an estimated 27 percent of the on-reservation residents last year.

Forty years ago — 1980

Student of the Week is Jeffrey Michael Lawson, a senior at Cassadaga Valley Central School. He is the 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lawson. President of the Student Council, he is a member of the Valley Minstrels senior high chorus, has been involved with the school musicals, and served as the announcer for the home varsity football and basketball games. Jeff plans to attend JCC to major in humanities for an eventual major in radio broadcasting.

Olenu, a painting by Dr. William Proweller, associate professor of art at Fredonia State University College, was dedicated during ceremonies at Temple Beth El in Dunkirk.
