Thirty years ago — 1990
Several town of Dunkirk residents expressed opposition to the Spanish Baptist Church locating at 10960 1/2 Bennett Road. The church wants to use the Bennett Road house as a meeting place until the congregation can raise enough money to build a church. Residents objected to possible noise and traffic problems, among others.
Forty years ago — 1980
Work is well under way for the addition to the Columbus Club on Deer Street at East Fourth Street in Dunkirk’s urban renewal district. The addition will house a 34 by 34-foot dining room with seating for 125. The addition will also expand the existing bar area in the club by 20 square feet. The project is scheduled for completion by May, according to Dunkirk architect Nelson Palmer.
Fifty years ago — 1970
Natalie Popielarz of Straight Road, Forestville is the Student of the Week. The daughter of Clarence Popielarz, she is a student at Forestville Central School.
