Thirty years ago — 1990

The Dunkirk Local Development Corporation approved a $50,000 loan through the Small Business Revolving Loan program for a Silver Creek resident who is in the process of purchasing the former Mark’s Restaurant on Lake Shore Drive West. Demetrios A. Tsirtsakis, who owns Demetri’s Family Restaurant in Irving, told the DLDC board he is currently renovating the restaurant and hopes to have it open in early or mid-March.

Forty years ago — 1980

Fredonia Junior Miss Laurie Larson was named second runner-up and winner of the poise and appearance award at the New York State Junior Miss Pageant in Syracuse. The Fredonia High School senior received a $400 scholarship and a camera at the state competition. Miss Larson, the daughter of Mrs. Susan Larson and Frederick Larson of Fredonia, was accompanied by Mrs. Charlotte Jakiel, Jayncee chaperone.
