Thirty years ago — 1990

An “Evening of Jazz” in memory of Vincent S. Morette will benefit the music scholarship fund in his name established by the Fredonia College Foundation. A 1958 alumnus of Fredonia, he was a friend and mentor to countless WNY musicians and the founder and owner of Mark Records in Clarence.

Forty years ago — 1980

March 5 marked 25 years since Mr. and Mrs. Leo Szymanski assumed ownership and operation of The Steak House on Central Avenue in Dunkirk.

The Historical Society of Dunkirk, which will soon move to its new home at 513 Washington Ave., Dunkirk is planning to exhibit a collection of prayer books and bibles, acknowledging the important role the churches have played in the history of Dunkirk.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Dr. Anthony R. Leone, mayor of Fredonia, has received a patent from the United States Patent Office in Washington for a liquid waste collector for campers. Dr. Leone’s invention has been affectionately nicknamed “the honey bucket.”
