Thirty years ago — 1990

Laura W. Kibelsbeck, a senior at Silver Creek Central School, has been selected to participate in the National High School Honors Orchestra. An oboist, she will perform in the gala concert to be held at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on April 1. Laura is the daughter of Frank and Janet Kibelsbeck of Dennison Road, Silver Creek and studies privately with Dr. John Maier of SUNY Fredonia’s School of Music.

Forty years ago — 1980

James F. Szwejbka Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Szwejbka, 97 Willowbrook Ave., Dunkirk received his Eagle Badge during the Court of Honor for Boy Scout Troop 254 sponsored by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. The badge was presented by Scoutmaster Leonard J. Wencek. James’ Eagle project involved the area distribution of “Tot Finder” decals with financial support from the Independent Insurance Agents Association.

Fifty years ago — 1970

State Conservation Department personnel have dumped thousands of fingerling coho salmon into Dunkirk’s harbor, where it is hoped they will thrive and return as adults next year to spawn.
