Thirty years ago — 1990

Student of the Week is Ann Hartlieb, a senior at Gowanda Central School, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hartlieb of Gowanda. Ann is secretary of both the National Honor Society and the Thespian Society and is also a member of the Senior High Student Council. Following graduation, she plans to train for a dual career in sports medicine and athletic training at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania.

Forty years ago — 1980

William Merritt, owner and manager of Merritt Estate Winery in Forestville, is the 1980 winner of the “Business Person of the Year” award presented by the Economics/Business Club at Fredonia State University College. Mr. Merritt was chosen from a total of 30 nominees.

Fifty years ago — 1970

The championship trophy of the CCIAC will remain at Dunkirk High School for another year as the Marauders rolled to a 10-0 league record.
