Thirty years ago — 1990
Student of the Week is Melanie Darling, a senior at Ripley Central School and the daughter of Dave and Brenda Darling. Class president for the past three years and a member of the National Honor Society, she was named tennis and basketball MVP. Melanie is listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students and was named Miss Ripley in 1989. At college, she plans to major in physical therapy.
Forty years ago — 1980
Mayor Gary Michalak left no doubt about his stance on the proposed 60-unit public housing project in Dunkirk. He gave the proposal his full support when he delivered his first “state-of-the-city” message at a regular meeting of the Common Council.
Fifty years ago — 1970
Lt. Ronald E. Kidder has announced his intention to enter the June 23 primary election to seek the 150th District assemblyman position.
