Thirty years ago — 1990

The newest Arby’s Restaurant has opened at its Bennett Road location. Western New York owned and operated, the store will offer better service with a larger dining area and new modern decor. The store moved from its operation on East Main Street in Fredonia. Mary Jo Pearce is the manager.

Forty years ago — 1980

The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has followed through with its threat to cut off about $2 million in aid for Dunkirk because the council failed to adopt an appropriate resolution supporting public housing. Apparently down the tubes are Dunkirk’s grants of $1.64 million under the Small Cities program and $344,000 in 1979-80 community development funds.

Fifty years ago — 1970

As its part in a national anti-litter campaign conducted by more than 16 chapters, the Grape Bunch chapter of the National Campers and Hikers Association Inc. held a campout at Point Gratiot and collected debris littering the area.
