Thirty years ago — 1990

Student of the Week is Tom Fleissner, son of Paul and Sue Fleissner of Silver Creek. A senior at Silver Creek High School, he is enrolled in the auto mechanics program at BOCES. Tom currently works part-time for Hank Bokman Chevrolet. Following graduation, he plans to continue working for Bokman’s while exploring the possibility of attending the General Motors Engineering Institute.

Forty years ago – 1980

Mrs. Mary Catalano was recently honored as “Mother of the Year” by St. Anthony’s Church in Buffalo. The Dunkirk woman’s name was submitted by her son Frank, a parishioner, with an accompanying article telling why he felt she was deserving of the recognition during this “Year of the Family.” Mrs. Catalano, widow of George Catalano, is the mother of 10 children.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Dr. Oscar E. Lanford, president of Fredonia State University College, has been appointed second director of State University of New York’s “Panel on University Purposes.”
